09. Why Medication is Used in Anxiety Treatment
05. Intro
Anxiety is more than just fear.
It involves a deep concern about the experience of anxiety itself, which is often so overwhelming and uncomfortable that it paralyzes us afterward. The reason we seek treatment is precisely to avoid this painful experience again. Without the discomfort, there would be no need for treatment. Thus, the discomfort of anxiety must be one of the main problems.
If anxiety were not uncomfortable, we would not seek a doctor’s help.
Which would mean we would not take medication if anxiety were not uncomfortable.
We would not receive a diagnosis if anxiety were not uncomfortable.
Most importantly, we would have no unpleasant symptoms if anxiety were not uncomfortable. It is the discomfort that creates anxious thoughts, which then create the symptoms.
Because anxiety is uncomfortable, it generates our negative thoughts about it.
If we did not have these negative thoughts about anxiety, we would not have symptoms either, since the thoughts, as mentioned, create the symptoms.
Therefore, if the negative thoughts can be turned into positive or merely neutral thoughts, the symptoms will, over time, be completely avoided.
This is what we aim to teach you.
By understanding that the root of anxiety lies not only in the situations that provoke fear but in our reactions to the discomfort it causes, we open the door to a transformative approach. By addressing and altering our thought patterns, we can diminish and eventually eradicate the symptoms of anxiety. This strategy emphasizes the power of positive thinking as a treatment for anxiety. By changing our mindset, we can achieve a significant impact on our emotional and physical well-being.
